Fish Species:

In our lake, you will find the following species:

  • Roach
  • Perch
  • Tench
  • Mirror Carp
  • Common Carp
  • Rudd

Fishing Rules:

  1. Accompaniment: Children MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  2. Licence: A valid Environment Agency Rod Fishing Licence is required. Please ensure you have one before fishing.
  3. Rods: A maximum of 2 rods per person is allowed.
  4. Fishing Equipment:
    • Landing mats and nets: These are provided free of charge and can be found in the store room next to the laundry.
    • Post-use procedure: After use, please hang landing nets back in the store room racks to air-dry and sterilise for the next person.
    • Landing mats: Rinse them free of any dirt or debris (NO chemicals), then hang them on hooks to air dry.
    • Keep nets: Not allowed.
  5. Safety: Lifebuoys and bins are located around the lake (north, east, south, and west).
  6. Rod Safety: Rods must not be left unattended at any time.
  7. Hooks & Bait:
    • Only barbless hooks are allowed.
    • Bait restrictions: No floating baits. Banned baits include bloodworm, joker, trout pellets, tiger nuts, and peanuts. Strictly no lead or toxic weights.
  8. Lake Environment: Please keep pegs and banks clean. Dispose of all waste in the bins provided.
  9. Swimming & Wading: Swimming or wading in the lake is strictly prohibited.
  10. Wildlife: Respect the plants and wildlife surrounding the lake.
  11. Fish Care: Always use forceps or disgorgers for hook removal. Fish must not be removed from the lake.
  12. Boats: No boats are allowed on the lake.
  13. Tents: If using a tent, please ensure you leave no trace when clearing away.
  14. Noise: Keep noise to a minimum after 10pm. Please ensure all bait alarms are turned to silent. Be mindful of other guests and maintain a peaceful atmosphere at all times.
  15. Photos:
  • Anglers are encouraged to share their photos for website publication.
  • When taking photos of fish, please kneel rather than stand.
  • Share your photos on Instagram using #watersidelodgescambridge or tag us on Facebook at @watersidelodgescambridge.

  1. Respect: Treat the fish with care and respect. The lake is for the equal enjoyment of everyone – no one has priority.
  2. Liability: The management is not responsible for injury, loss, or damage arising from the use of the lake.
